Groups Press FTC to Expedite EnergyGuide Labels on Portable Air Conditioners
In response to the Federal Trade Commission’s notice of proposed rulemaking on revisions to the EnergyGuide label for portable air conditioners (PACs), CFA, along with other advocates, pressed the FTC to expedite implementation of EnergyGuide labels on PACs so consumers can make more informed choices on energy cost and consumption. However, the groups urged the agency to abandon other aspects of the proposal such as the suggestion that the labeling requirements may be unnecessarily prescriptive. “…the information presented on many EnergyGuide labels is complex and dense, allowing greater room for variability in layout and type style and setting would hinder the label’s effectiveness in assisting consumers to make purchasing.”
