Consumers, Food Companies Tell Congress Not to Undermine Integrity of Organic Program
CFA joined national and local consumer and public health advocates, as well as many food companies, in a letter to congressional leaders asking them to scrap recent proposals to overhaul the National Organic Standards Board in the Farm Bill. The Board makes recommendations on a wide range of issues involving the production, handling, and processing of organic products. Language in the Senate and House bills would makes changes to the authorities or composition of the Board, potentially undercutting the integrity of the organic program, undermining consumer trust in the organic label, and severely damaging the reputation of the industry as a whole.
