Consumer and Privacy Groups Urge California Lawmakers Not to Weaken Recently-Enacted Privacy Law
In a letter to California State Senators Dodd and Hertzberg and Assembly Member Chau, consumer and privacy groups including CFA are urging the legislators to reject recent proposals to weaken the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). While the groups appreciate efforts to use SB 1121 as a vehicle to make technical, clean-up amendments to CCPA, the California Chamber of Commerce's recent letter of proposed changes are substantive in nature and would fundamentally water down the CCPA’s privacy protections. Even when the letter does identify a provision where a technical fix is needed, the proposed solution is often excessive in nature and would run counter to the clear intention of the legislation.
