CFA Questions FDA’s Classification of Animal Drugs
In comments on a direct final rulemaking issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on which drugs may be sold for use in medicated feed by unlicensed feed mills, Consumer Federation of America urged the agency to adopt risk-based regulations. Currently, FDA subjects some drugs to more stringent regulation on an arbitrary basis, and fails to take account of factors that could help to better protect consumers from harmful drug residues and avoid development of antibiotic resistant bacteria.
