CFA Calls on House Oversight Committee to Convene Hearing on TSA Mandating Whole Body Scanning
CFA, alongside a coalition of civil liberties, human rights, and non-profit organizations, is calling upon the leaders of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform to convene a hearing on the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) conduct. The TSA has recently asserted that it can mandate whole body scans for airline passengers, in contradiction to a federal court ruling which determined that passengers are able to opt-out in favor of a patdown. CFA is also calling on the Committee to suspend funding for whole body scanners until public rulemaking on TSA's legal authority to conduct airport screening is issued.
