Washington, D.C. — Today, Jack Gillis, Executive Director of the Consumer Federation of America, is announcing that Micah Hauptman is returning to CFA as Director of Investor Protection. Previously, Hauptman served as Counsel to Securities and Exchange Commission Commissioner Caroline Crenshaw, where he focused on investment management issues, examinations of investment advisers, investment companies, broker-dealers, and regulatory implementation of Regulation Best Interest. Prior to that, Hauptman served as CFA’s Financial Services Counsel for nearly seven years working on investor protection advocacy.

“Micah’s return to CFA brings his extraordinary experience as a seasoned and effective advocate for retail and retirement investor protection, as well as market efficiency and fairness,” said Gillis. “His senior-level regulatory experience on cutting edge investor issues will contribute to CFA’s continued leadership on investor protection.”

Hauptman succeeds Barbara Roper, who led CFA’s investor protection efforts for 35 years.

“I'm excited to return to CFA, whose mission and work I have deep pride in, and passion for,” said Hauptman. “I look forward to collaborating with my dedicated CFA colleagues and continuing Barb Roper's establishment of CFA as the nation’s leader on investor protection.”
