CFA Statement in Response to Dismissal of NCUA Board Members Harper and Otsuka
WASHINGTON, D.C. –The Consumer Federation of America released the following statement today in response to the dismissal of National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) board members Todd Harper and Tanya Otsuka.
“The National Credit Union Administration Act requires the NCUA’s board to have bipartisan leadership under a framework independent from political pressure,” said Adam Rust, director of financial services for the Consumer Federation of America. “This is the latest in a string of actions by the Trump Administration to subvert the law and undermine financial regulators that keep Americans’ money safe. Firing Harper and Otsuka compromises the ability of the NCUA to fulfill its obligation to serve the needs of 142 million individuals and small businesses who have entrusted credit unions with their hard-earned money. It puts people at risk when partisan politics takes precedence over common sense.”
